Brighton manager risks ban for claiming he hates 80% of England referees
FootballSergio Ramos Accuses Referee Who Gave Him a Red Card of Being 'Arrogant'
- Sergio Ramos was sent off with a red card for the first time in La Liga this season
- The Sevilla defender was ejected for his tackle on Real Sociedad's Brais Mendez
- The Real Madrid veteran holds the record for the most red cards in La Liga history
Sergio Ramos may have won the World Cup, the European Championship, and the Champions League, but the defender is still hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons.
On Sunday, the Sevilla centre-back was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle on Real Sociedad's Brais Mendez. He has since sent a message to the referee who sent him off in their 2-1 defeat.
Ramos is no stranger to seeing red cards. No player in La Liga history has more red cards than the World Cup winner.
After his latest sending-off, the Spaniard has now received a staggering 29 red cards in his career. He has the most red cards in the 21st century, ahead of Rafael Marquez (21) and Felipe Melo (20), per Transfermarkt. He received his first career send-off in La Liga on September 18, 2005.
Ramos returned to his boyhood club, Sevilla, this season after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. So far, they've won just two games in La Liga all season and sit 15th in the table.
Ramos responds to referee
Speaking ahead of Sevilla's UEFA Champions League clash with Dutch giants, PSV Eindhoven, Ramos said referees need to communicate with respect.
“Referees can also make mistakes, like us. In the past, they were put in the fridge when they made wrong decisions. We’re here to help. The referee the other day [Ortiz Arias] is a distant person who speaks with an out-of-place arrogance being a referee, and we don’t like that... We can make mistakes, but above all, there must be respect," he said, via Football Espana.

FootballHe hopes the appeal from Sevilla can reduce his ban to one game. It is hard to see the decision being overturned, however, because it was a dangerous tackle.
