The 2023 Ballon d’Or result has reportedly been leaked online, sparking a flurry of reactions ahead of the official announcement on October 30 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
For the chance to be named the finest football player in the world, 30 candidates were announced in September, with Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe the leading contenders.
According to Sportskeeda, the leaked Ballon d’Or result has confirmed Messi as the winner of the 2023 edition, beating all other contenders for a record-extending eight award.
The Inter Miami star scored seven goals, including a brace in the final against France, to lead Argentina to its third FIFA World Cup trophy in 2022.
For the first time ever in the award's history, the Ballon d'Or will be awarded based on the performance of the 2022/23 season rather than the prior practice of using the calendar year.
