FootballVictor Osimhen: Napoli Striker Risks Fine After Confronting Rudi Garcia
- Victor Osimhen missed a second-half penalty as Napoli drew versus Genoa away from home
- The Nigerian star had an altercation with his coach when he was substituted late in the game
- Napoli's Rudi Garcia claimed the issue has been addressed and will stay in the dressing room
Victor Osimhen may have landed in hot water with the Napoli hierarchy after he clashed with his manager, Rudi Garcia after his substitution against Genoa on Sunday.
The Neapolitans' slow start to the season continued after a goalless draw away from home and Osimhen could have won it for the team had he not missed a penalty shot.
The Nigerian star then sparked drama after an angry reaction to being substituted in the final minutes, making a gesture seemingly questioning his manager's tactics.
Napoli coach, Rudi Garcia expressed his dissatisfaction after the game to Dimarzio but remained tight-lipped over what he said to the player in the dressing room.
"The missed penalty happens to the greatest players in the history of football. Then I obviously spoke to him about his exit, but what I said to him and the team remains in the locker room.
"I may not be happy with their performance, but we are a squad with many players and therefore obviously everyone must be used. He is the penalty taker."
Osimhen risks fine from Napoli
Tutto Mercato reported the 24-year-old's gesture towards Garcia was 'too blatant' and could see him fined after captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo challenged the Nigerian in the dressing room.
The champions have been struggling this season following the departure of Scudetto-winning manager, Luciano Spalletti, who is now Italy's national team coach. The Neapolitans are seventh on the log with eight points from the opening five games.
Last season's Golden Boot winner, Osimhen has three goals this season, while his forward partner, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has not found the back of the net since March, creating a major concern for the club and fans.
