A Spanish domestic abuse charity has called on Getafe to reverse their choice of signing Mason Greenwood from Manchester United.

Earlier this month, it was announced that both United and Greenwood had jointly decided the most suitable course of action was for the forward to pursue his career elsewhere.

On the transfer deadline day, the 21-year-old successfully completed a loan transfer to the La Liga team, Getafe.

However, after securing Greenwood's signature, the Spanish side has come under intense scrutiny, per the Daily Mirror.

The publication reports that the Ana Bella Foundation, a domestic abuse charity in the country, has formally requested the club reconsider the decision to sign the former United player.

The foundation is reported to have called out Getafe for 'setting a terrible example' by bringing Greenwood in, as Manchester Evening News also reported.

"Getafe executives should never have hired Mason Greenwood and should immediately overturn their decision. If you’re a public-facing organisation like Getafe, there is no excuse to take a neutral stance on violence against women - you must take moral responsibility."

According to SportBible, Greenwood has been out of competitive action for over 18 months due to the allegations of attempted assault and controlling behaviour levelled at him.

However, these charges were subsequently dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February, with United also initiating their own internal investigation into the matter.

Greenwood to make Getafe debut

Clubs from Turkey and Italy were interested in signing the 21-year-old forward, but the Spanish side won the race to sign him on a season-long loan.

His fitness would be questionable since he hasn't had a competitive game in months, so his debut is expected to come later this month.

As reported by Sun Sport, Greenwood's debut will come after the international break, as he is slated to play against Osasuna on September 17.

How fans reacted to Greenwood's return

Sports Brief also reported on fans having mixed reactions to Greenwood's return after Man United released a statement claiming he would continue his career away at Old Trafford.

Some lines of the presser did not sit well with fans, who believe non-conviction does not mean 'not guilty' and called out the club for insinuating that the striker had committed no offence.
