  • Jamie Redknapp believes Kevin de Bruyne is no longer the best midfielder in the Premier League
  • De Bruyne has created 98 goals in the Premier League, with 97 of those in his spell at Man City
  • Comparisons between the two on social media have since divided football fans down the middle

Former Liverpool star, Jamie Redknapp recently courted controversy on social media after claiming one Arsenal star was better than Kevin de Bruyne this season.

Redknapp was on punditry duty on March 12 for the London derby involving Arsenal and Fulham, which the Gunners comfortably won to maintain a five-point lead at the top of the table.

After the game, the former Reds star was full of praise for Arsenal skipper, Martin Odegaard, who he claimed is possibly the best midfielder in the Premier League.

Redknapp said, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“Right now, he’s number one. There’s nobody [better]. Normally we would say Kevin De Bruyne is the best midfield player, not just in the Premier League but the world."

The pundit believes something is not quite right concerning de Bruyne.

"He isn’t playing as many games as he’d like. But Odegaard does this thing where - all great players possess it - it’s like time stands still when he has the ball.”

Who compares to de Bruyne?

As far as good form is concerned, Redknapp may have a point about Odegaard, who has hit double digits in league goals in a season for the first time in his career.

In addition, he has come up with six assists for his teammates so far in the campaign.

For de Bruyne, it has not been the glitteriest campaign in his career as question marks have started to rise after Pep Guardiola’s recent decisions to bench him, according to SportBible.

The Belgian was an unused substitute against Bournemouth and only played 11 minutes against Crystal Palace.

Arsenal tipped to bottle EPL

Sports Brief also reported on an interesting prediction on how the Gunners might bottle the title the Premier League title in their remaining 11 games.

Former Tottenham player and pundit, Jamie O'Hara is convinced Arsenal will not be champion this season, looking at the games they have left in hand.

He said there were still clashes coming up against second-placed Man City, against Newcastle away, and against a Chelsea side pulling it together.
