The competition for the award has been fierce, with several teams producing the league's young top players severally. However, over the past ten years, only a few teams have been able to have their players' names repeatedly appear on the list.
The first awards, in 1967, were awarded to Detroit Lions Mel Farr (offence) and Lem Barney (defence). One of the intriguing aspects of this award is that both players were on the same team.

2013: Eddie Lacy | Green Bay Packers
The Offensive Rookie of the Year award was given to Lacy in 2013, making him the first Packer to receive it since running back John Brockington in 1971. He also surpassed Ryan Grant's 2009 1,000-yard rushing total for the Packers. Eddie was ranked 90th by his fellow players on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2014.
