  • Kylian Mbappe is in fine form for France at the World Cup, but he could have featured for Cameroon
  • The striker had made efforts to play for his fatherland, but corrupt practices forced him to dump the Indomitable Lions
  • Mbappe’s father disclosed how a member of the Cameroon FA requested money from the youngster

The father of France striker Kylian Mbappe has narrated all that transpired, forcing his son to play for Les Blues rather than Cameroon.

Mbappe was born in Paris to a Cameroonian father, Wilfried, and an Algerian mother, but he had made efforts to play senior national team football for the Central African Country where his dad came from.

Back in 2018, Wilfried alleged that a member of the Cameroon FA requested some money before his son could make the Indomitable Lions’ squad.

“At first, I wanted my son to play for Cameroon but, someone at the Cameroon Football Federation charged a sum of money that I didn’t have to make him play. The French didn’t charge anything.”

In 2018, Mbappe was in sensational form at the World Cup in Russia as he scored four goals, including one in the 4-2 win against Croatia in the final.

He became the second teenager to score in the World Cup final after Brazilian legend Pele.

Facts indicate that corruption is rampant with national team call-ups in Africa, where merits are not considered.

It is a privilege to play for the national team, and Kylian believes that players should not be paid to turn out to serve their country.

Mbappe surpasses Thierry Henry's record

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kylian Mbappe was the show's star as France earned an impressive 2-1 victory against Denmark in their second Group D game at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The PSG forward scored his third goal in this year’s competition after grabbing both goals for France as Didier Deschamps’ team earned their second win in two games.

Mbappe has now scored 7 goals in just his second World Cup appearance for France, surpassing Thierry Henry’s record with the French national team.
