Having lost their opening game against Saudi Arabia, the South Americans needed to avoid defeat against Mexico to keep their World Cup dream alive.

Messi later took to social media to share his joy after helping Argentina get their World Cup campaign back on track.
"We had to win today and we could do it. There's another final coming up on Wednesday and we have to keep fighting all together... Let's go Argentina," he posted on Instagram.
