Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has sent Lionel Messi a powerful message following the Paris Saint-Germain star's World Cup heroics against Mexico.

Messi was Argentina's man of the moment during their crucial Group C World Cup encounter on Saturday, November 26.

Having lost their opening game against Saudi Arabia, the South Americans needed to avoid defeat against Mexico to keep their World Cup dream alive.

And Lionel Scaloni's side had Messi to thank for helping them down a stubborn Mexican side when they faced off at Lusail Stadium.

The PSG ace scored once and set up another to help Argentina bag their first points of the World Cup in a 2-0 victory.

Messi later took to social media to share his joy after helping Argentina get their World Cup campaign back on track.

"We had to win today and we could do it. There's another final coming up on Wednesday and we have to keep fighting all together... Let's go Argentina," he posted on Instagram.

Aguero was among thousands of Messi's followers who responded to the post, with the former Man City attacker commenting:

"But I'm aphonic. Great friend, I love you!"

Meanwhile, Argentina will be keen to get the job done when they battle Robert Lewandowski's Poland in their final group match next Wednesday.

Messi keeps promise

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Lionel Messi reignited Argentina's World Cup hopes with a stunning performance on Saturday, November 26, against Mexico.

Argentina were staring at an early exit from the competition after they suffered a 2-1 shock loss to Saudi Arabia in their Group C opener.
