FootballEdouard Mendy Angling Towards Chelsea Exit 2 Years After £22 Million Transfer
- Edouard Mendy faces an uncertain future at Chelsea as he heads to the World Cup
- The Senegal international was signed by the Blues for £22 million in 2020
- He is reportedly contemplating his first-team chances at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea shot-stopper Edouard Mendy could be set for a Stamford Bridge exit earlier than expected, according to stunning new reports.
Mendy, who has proven to be worth his £22 million transfer fee, is reportedly considering his future with the Blues after seemingly losing his No.1 position at the club.
Since the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, Mendy has been devoid of playing time at Chelsea, with new manager Graham Potter preferring Kepa Arrizabalaga between the sticks.
Kepa rose as Potter’s preferred goalie for Chelsea while Mendy recovered from a stubborn knee injury.

As reported by Daily Mail, recent Chelsea games where Kepa has played as the main goalkeeper, has raised concerns that perhaps Mendy’s spell as the first choice between the sticks may be coming to an end.
Furthermore, it is understood that Potter is ready to try to bring Brighton shot-stopper Robert Sanchez to Stamford Bridge, a move that would see Mendy get more competition for the number 1 spot.
However, there are little chance that Chelsea will sanction a move for Mendy in January, but the fact that he is Senegal’s number 1 goalkeeper for the World Cup could mean great performances at the tournament could attract bids.
Mendy and Chelsea have already engaged in talks over a potential contract extension, but no deal has been reached.
