Lionel Messi left his teammate Kylian Mbappe speechless on the bench with his sublime free kick against OGC Nice on Saturday, October 1.

The Argentine has been in scintillating form this season for PSG scoring seven goals and getting eight assists in his first 12 games of the campaign.

He is proving to be an asset for Christopher Galtier’s side, a fact that manifested itself once again in PSG’s latest Ligue 1 game.

In the 12th minute, PSG were given a free kick from 30 yards out, but Messi’s effort sailed wide of the post.

The maestro would get a second chance 15 minutes later, when his side got another free kick, this time a few yards closer to goal.

It initially looked like it would be Neymar who would take the set piece, but the Brazilian, who enjoys a great relationship with Messi, allowed the 35-year old to have a second stab, and it proved to be the right decision.

Messi’s flying free kick found the top corner, with Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel practically rooted to the spot.

The free kick was so sublime, that Kylian Mbappe, who was started on the bench for the game, could not help but applaud in admiration.

Incidentally, the advertising billboards instantly turned from AUTOHERO’ to ‘GOAT’ once the free kick went in.

How the game went

Nice drew level early in the second half when Gaetan Laborde pounced from close range, but it was Mbappe and PSG who would have the final say.

The Frenchman, who is also enjoying a purple patch, came off the bench to strike in the 83rd minute guiding the ball home from Nordi Mukiele's cutback.

This was PSG’s seventh win in a row, which keeps them top of the Ligue 1 after 9 games, three points better off than second-place Marseille.
