Despite Ten Hag's strictness, a yet-to-be-identified Man United star appears to have fallen short of what is required of the team, courting punishment from the tactician.

The Athletic reports that an unnamed player twice turned up late for team meetings, with the actions leaving Ten Hag with no choice but to drop him from his plans for a friendly in Australia.

The publication claims that the Red Devils' boss was planning to involve the player in one of the fixtures but ended up punishing him by axing him from the team.

The development comes at a time the ex-Ajax boss has earned praise from his players for instilling discipline in the team.

Ten Hag set for huge bonus if Man United make top four

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Erik ten Hag is set to smile all the way to the bank should he guide Manchester United back to the Champions League.

According to reports, the Dutchman will pocket an eyewatering £3million as a bonus if United finish in the top four.

The bonus is on top of Ten Hag's £9million-a-year that he is earning at Old Trafford as a salary.
