Gerard Pique is “suffering” and his personal life is unpleasant at the moment, according to Barcelona President Joan Laporta.

In recent weeks, the Barcelona defender has been a hot topic after it emerged that he reportedly cheated on his stunning wife Shakira.

Pique and Shakira also confirmed all was not well in paradise as they shared a joint statement confirming they were not together anymore after 11 years.

Amid a torrid few weeks for Pique, Laporta backed the player as he shed light on his current situation.

"Pique is suffering. As much as we imagine, we have in our imagination players with fame, money and everything we like, but they are people and Pique is a great person. Laporta said as per Marca.

Despite being 35 years and well in his twilight football years, Pique was an integral part of Barcelona’s squad last season as he featured 39 times, helping Xavi’s side to a second place finish in La Liga.

Laporta, in a strong defense of Pique, urged fans to avoid feeding too much into media reports.
