Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has sent Arsenal a message after they missed out on a Champions League qualification.

The Gunners came close to securing a top-four spot this term by just two points, with rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, finishing ahead of them.

According to Metro UK, Mikel Arteta's men lost the race for the top four in the final week of the season, with a defeat to Newcastle United proving costly.

Whereas they beat Everton on the final day, Spurs also won their own outing against Norwich City to beat Arsenal to a Champions League spot.

Aubameyang, who spent the first half of the season at the Emirates has now expressed his disappointment after his former side failed to qualify for the top four.

However, the 32-year-old Gabonese striker was quick to send the north Londoners a message of goodwill ahead of next season.

"Really close [to getting in the top four]. I think they made a lot of improvements and I’m a bit sad because I wanted to catch them in the Champions League. I have a lot of friends over there," Aubameyang told Sky Sports.

"But I’m wishing them all the best for next season and obviously, I think it’s going to be a good thing for them to get back to the Europa League as well. Hopefully, they can win it," he added.

Aubameyang quit the Emirates for a move to Barcelona during the January transfer window after he fell out with Mikel Arteta.
