Man City boss Pep Guardiola was reduced to tears after helping the club retain the Premier League title on Sunday, May 22.
The title race had to be decided on the final day of the 2021/22 season after an epic run by City and Liverpool that had seen the two teams separated by just a point with a game to go.
Having been held to a disappointing draw by West Ham United in their previous outing, SunSport reports Guardiola's men needed to win their final fixture against Aston Villa at Etihad Stadium to secure the domestic trophy.
On their part, Liverpool also needed to see off Wolves at Anfield and pray that City falters against Villa to stand any chance of winning the crown.
Man City comes out on top
However, the Citizens were able to see off Villa at home after a nerve-wracking clash that saw them come from two goals down to win 3-2.
Matty Cash scored the opener for the Villans in the 37th minute before Philippe Coutinho doubled the advantage in the 69th minute.
Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri sprung into action soon after to inspire City to a dramatic comeback, with the latter netting a brace.
City's thrilling victory was enough to earn them their eighth league crown as Liverpool were forced to settle for a second-place finish.
