The Aston Villa boss was recently asked to name his list of the best midfielders currently by Rio Ferdinand.

In his list, the former England international included only Premier League players with the exception of Jude Bellingham who is plying his trade in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

Other players who featured in Gerrard's list include Man City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, and Liverpool's Fabinho.

"Playing now… love Jude Bellingham, absolutely loving him. Kevin De Bruyne, without a shadow of a doubt. I’m going to go for attacking players," Gerrard told Rio as quoted by Metro UK.
"Love Mason Mount, what he’s doing. Kovacic at Chelsea. I’ll go for one No.6… I love Fabinho at Liverpool and I love Rodri," he added.

Ten Chelsea stars who could leave Stamford Bridge this summer

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Chelsea could lose as many as 10 senior players once the summer transfer window opens in the coming weeks.

The players include Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner, Ross Barkley, and Cesar Azpilicueta whose deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

Antonio Rudiger is the highest-ranking member of the squad certain to leave this summer after the Germany international reached a deal to join Real Madrid.

Sadio Mane inspires Liverpool to victory over Aston Villa

Meanwhile, Sadio Mane was the match hero as Liverpool downed a stubborn Aston Villa side on Tuesday night, May 11.

Douglas Luiz scored the opener for Steven Gerrard's men inside just three minutes of action before Joel Matip restored parity for the Reds in the 6th minute.

The match looked set for a draw before Mane's moment of magic in the 65th minute earned Jurgen Klopp's side the three points.
