  • Peter Crouch and Rio Ferdinand have both backed Manchester City to win the Premier League title ahead of Liverpool
  • Liverpool missed out on a chance to momentarily go top of the Premier League standings after their 1-1 draw with Tottenham
  • The result also handed Manchester City a slight edge in the title race as they have an opportunity of going three points clear when they meet Newcastle

Premier League icons Rio Ferdinand and Peter Crouch have backed Manchester City to win the Premier League crown this season.

City are clear favourites to retain the trophy this term alongside rivals, Liverpool, after an epic campaign that has seen them rack up 83 points so far.

The two English heavyweights are currently level on points, with City having a slight edge over the Reds with a game in hand.

Jurgen Klopp's charges had a chance to move above the Citizens on Saturday, May 7, but settled for a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Peter Crouch, Rio Ferdinand make EPL title prediction

Crouch and Ferdinand have now made their Premier League title prediction in the wake of Liverpool's draw vs Tottenham.

According to Crouch, City have all it takes to reclaim the domestic crown, with Rio claiming the reigning champions actually have one hand on the trophy.

"I'd have to say yes. The standards these two clubs have set, they don't lose many, they don't draw many, you'd expect City to go on and win every game now," Daily Mail quoted Crouch saying when asked if Liverpool's title chances are over after their 1-1 stalemate with Spurs.

Rio added:

"Out of the Champions League, which they were trying to win obviously, and their moral would have been so low.

"But I think today's result and then you compound that with a win against Newcastle, I think then they got one hand on the title."

Man City keen to bounce back to winning ways

Earlier, Sports Brief reported league leaders Manchester City are scheduled to host Newcastle United on Sunday, May 8, at the Etihad Stadium.

City will be looking to bounce back to winning ways from their recent Champions League heartbreak.

Pep Guardiola's men were eliminated from the European competition on a 6-5 goal aggregate by Real Madrid.
