  • Ralf Rangnick has admitted it will be imperative for Man United to spend big during the summer transfer window
  • The club has endured a frustrating season this term as they will be ending the campaign without a trophy
  • With a new manager expected to take charge at the end of the season, Rangnick has underscored the need for a squad overhaul
  • Ajax forward Antony and Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger are some of the names that have been linked with a move to Old Trafford

Man United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has conceded that the club will need to spend big in the summer transfer window to compete favourably next season.

Rangnick is expected to step down from his current position at the end of the season and swap his managerial job for a consultancy role.

The situation now leaves United with no choice but to enter the market in search of a permanent manager who will take charge in the summer.

Erik ten Hag, Pochettino linked with Man United job

As things stand, Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and his Paris Saint-Germain counterpart, Mauricio Pochettino, are understood to be the leading contenders for the Old Trafford job.

However, it is Ten Hag who is thought to be a clear frontrunner having already reportedly interviewed for the position.

Spain national team head coach Luis Enrique and Sevilla's Julen Lopetegui have also been linked with a United move.

However, irrespective of the direction the Red Devils decide to go in with their next manager, Rangnick has insisted a squad overhaul will be imperative for the club to rediscover its lost glory.

"It's obvious that something needs to be changed, something needs to be rebuilt in the summer," the German told Sky Sports.
"The team could do with some more highly-talented, hungry players who really want to develop their own careers. I don't think it should be that much about signing big names. I wouldn't mind big names," he added.

Gary Neville rates Man United's top-four chances

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Gary Neville has told Man United to forget a top-four finish following their 1-1 disappointing draw with Leicester City on Saturday, April 2, at Old Trafford.

United are among a host of teams chasing the final Champions League spot as the 2021/22 season hits the homestretch.

However, the Red Devils suffered a blow in their hopes of finishing in the top four after they settled for a 1-1 draw with Leicester.

Neville, a United icon, now contends his former side stands no chance of playing in the European elite football competition next season.
