Portugal's route to the 2022 Wolrd Cup

Fernando Santos' men missed out on a chance to earn a direct qualification for the World Cup after they finished second in their qualifying group.

At the time, the Seleção managed to collect a total of 17 points from eight matches, three points behind Serbia who made it through as group winners.

Portugal were subsequently relegated to the European play-offs and have already taken a huge step towards qualification for the global showpiece after they demolished Turkey in the semis.

North Macedonia, who eliminated Italy now stand in the way of Ronaldo and co. in their dream of earning a trip to Qatar.

The two teams are scheduled to face off in the final on Tuesday night, March 29, at Estadio do Dragao, with a World Cup ticket up for grabs.

Ronaldo rates Portugal's World Cup chances

Speaking ahead of the North Macedonia clash, Ronaldo exuded confidence Portugal will emerge victors, boldly claiming there will be no World Cup without Portugal.

However, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was quick to underscore the danger their opponents pose especially after they sent Italy packing.

“There is no World Cup without Portugal. There are no individualities here," Ronaldo said as quoted by Goal.
“We know that if we win we will go to the World Cup and if we lose we are out. We have the responsibility to be positive and win the match. I see everyone well prepared and wanting to be at their best tomorrow," he added.
