Knowing that anything short of victory could see them out of the competition, the Egyptians began the encounter making their intentions clear as they launched an attack in the early exchanges.

It was Arsenal man Mohamed Elneny who had the first chance in the opening seconds but he blazed the ball way over the bar.

Three minutes later, Mohamed Salah launched in a dangerous cross into the opposition area, but Mohamed’s header was wide off the post.

By the 13th minute, the Pharaohs had already launched for shots on target as they continued to chase for the opener.

A couple of minutes later, Salah got into the penalty area on the right, but he was surrounded by three Sudan defenders and the ball ran out for a goal kick.

Egypt eventually broke the deadlock in the 35th minute as Abdelmonem got off his marker from a corner and his header was too powerful for Sudan goalkeeper Mohamed. 1-0 Egypt.

And five minutes later, another chance for Egypt was wasted after Mohamed found space inside the area but he couldn't direct his header on target as both sides went into the break with the Pharaohs ahead.

Somehow the Egyptians failed to get a second goal and that was how it ended.

Nigeria 2-0 Guinea Bissau

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen made eight changes to the side that defeated Sudan on Saturday as they looked to finish the group stage with a 100 per cent record.

Sadiq Umar who missed a handful of chances opened the scoring of the encounter having found the back of the net in the 56th minute.

William Troost-Ekong sealed the win for the three-time champion having tucked home from close range as it ended in a 2-0 for the Eagles.
