Kenya Sevens Lionesses are determined to make history by qualifying for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series despite facing financial difficulties this year.

The team is currently training for the third leg of the World Rugby Challenger Series, set to be played in Poland.

Team Captain Sheila Chajira is confident that her team can overcome their financial challenges and show up strong in Krakow.

"It's an opportunity, not as fantastic, but second to the HSBC, so the quality is far much better than the games we play in Africa. We are getting exposed to more games before the big tournaments," she said, as captured by Sports Brief.

Chajira acknowledged that the team will face stiff competition from Belgium and Mexico in Pool B, but is undaunted.

"We know what it takes, having been there before. We played twice, we know what's up there, so we have tasted the blood. We have to go for it again. We don't want to leave anything behind because it's the last chance for us to qualify for the Olympics," she explained.

The team has been doing its homework on opponents, having watched their games and identified areas to exploit.

Kenya currently lies fifth on the Challenger Series standings with 24 points, four behind neighbours Uganda in fourth and 10 adrift of leaders China.

"Most of the teams that we played in the Repecharge are playing in the Challenger Series. We have watched the games; we know where to go, what to catch, and how to win," Chajira remarked.

The team's minimum target is a semi-final berth, which would secure them a spot among the eight teams at the playoffs in Madrid.

Coached by Dennis Mwanja, the Lionesses hope to inspire a new generation of women rugby players.

“It’s about a nation as well…it’s about inspiration. We could have many challenges, but at the moment, we are rolling with the punches," he said, as reported by Capital.

As per People Daily, the top four teams from the Spain tournament will earn a spot in the prestigious Sevens Series.

Kenya Shujaa triumphs in Dubai Sevens Challenger Series

Sports Brief reported when Kenya Sevens won the Challenger Series Dubai leg.

Shujaa's triumph was courtesy of the impressive performance of one rising star, Patrick Odongo, who scored two crucial tries to lead the team to a 12-7 victory over a resilient Chile side in the final.

Odongo wasted no time making an impact, breaking through the right wing to score a try in the first minute.
