Rising star Chidozie Obi-Martin is on the cusp of making his major tournament debut for Denmark's U17 national team at the 2024 European Championship in Cyprus.

The Danish Football Union announced its 20-player squad on Monday, May 6, including the prolific Arsenal U18 striker.

Obi-Martin has netted in eight consecutive matches in the U18 Premier League, taking his tally to an astonishing 29 goals.

The Glostrup native recently broke Folarin Balogun's record for most league goals scored by an Arsenal U18 player in a single season.

The young forward has already made a significant impact on Denmark's U17 team, scoring 10 goals in fourteen appearances since his debut in August 2023, per All Nigeria Soccer.

Denmark will face Austria, Croatia, and Wales in Group B of the tournament. bi-Martin could potentially face fellow Nigeria-eligible player Oghenetejiri Adejenughure when Denmark takes on Austria on May 26.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are bracing themselves for a fierce battle to retain the talented youngster's services, as top European clubs are reportedly circling to snap him up.

According to Football Association rules, Obi-Martin cannot sign a professional deal with the club until his 17th birthday in November, but other European clubs can offer him a professional contract at 16.

Premier League academy guidelines dictate that players accepting scholarship terms commit on July 1 of the academic year they turn 16. Meanwhile, those agreeing to professional deals can formalize them on their 17th birthday.

According to the Telegraph, a transfer window opens for academy moves every summer, contingent upon mutual terms between clubs.

Obi-Martin pledges allegiance to Denmark

Sports Brief reported that Obi-Martin pledged his allegiance to Denmark and dreams of playing for the national team.

He wants to achieve more success with the team than the outgoing golden generation.

The forward is regarded as one of the best young talents in European football.
