Mohamed Salah is arguably the best African to grace the Premier League.

The Egyptian is playing in his sixth season at Liverpool, and at 31, he is still going strong.

No African has scored more goals or provided more assists than him in the English top flight.

Furthermore, Salah has scored 157 Premier League goals. Only nine players have scored more in the league's history.

The former AS Roma winger has also provided 69 assists in the Premier League, more than any other African player.

Salah has also scored more goals in the English top flight than some of the biggest names in football. Here are some of the names that stand out.

Legends Salah has outscored

5. Luis Suarez - 69 goals

The Uruguayan arrived in Liverpool in January 2011 and stole the show for three and a half seasons before going to Barcelona to win many trophies. The controversial striker was immense at Anfield. In 110 games, he scored 69 league goals. Some of his goals were spectacular and still get included in many YouTube compilations.

It is hard to imagine that Suarez played three full seasons at Liverpool. He was part of the team that infamously slipped up in the title race, which Manchester City won.

4. Ruud van Nistelrooij - 95 goals

The Dutchman was an excellent striker. Nistelrooij joined Manchester United in 2001 and was brilliant in his brief spell there. He spent five seasons at Old Trafford and bagged 95 goals in 150 appearances before moving to Real Madrid. He won one Premier League title, and who can forget his goal against Fulham in 2003?

3. Ryan Giggs - 109 goals

Man United's success story cannot be written without Giggs. He played for the Red Devils his entire career after graduating from the academy in the early 1990s. He retired with 109 goals in 632 appearances. Giggs won 13 Premier League titles with Man United, a feat that will likely never be matched.

2. Steven Gerrard - 120 goals

Like Giggs, Gerard played his entire career with Liverpool. The current Al-Ettifaq coach is always considered the greatest midfielder to grace the Premier League. He scored 120 goals but was out of the game when Salah delivered Liverpool's first title in 30 years in 2020.

The former England captain scored several screamers in the Premier League. His finest moment came in the 2005 Champions League, where Liverpool mounted an astonishing comeback from 3-0 down.

1. Robin van Persie - 136 goals

Van Persie delivered Man United's last Premier League title in 2013. The Dutchman won two Premier League Golden Boots and scored 144 for Arsenal and Man United. His transfer to Old Trafford from Arsenal in 2012 is one of the most controversial moves in the league's history.

The Gunners still harbour deep resentment against the Dutchman.

Salah equals Rooney's mark

Sports Brief earlier reported on Salah matching Wayne Rooney's record of at least 10 goals and 10 assists in five different Premier League seasons.

The Egyptian ace, whose future at Liverpool seems uncertain, is the first player to hit double digits for goals and assists in three straight campaigns.
