Caelan plays rugby union for the Irish club Leinster, which competes in the URC and the European Rugby Champions Cup. At his best, he is a flanker or number eight. While a student at Blackrock College, a famous rugby school in Ireland, he was named Leinster Schools Rugby Senior Cup champion.

He debuted for the province as a senior in April 2018 against Connacht; he is a graduate of Leinster Academy. In 2020, he helped Leinster win their third straight Pro14 championship with a touchdown against Ulster.

Doris competed for Ireland's under-20 national team in 2017 and 2018 and was integral to their success at the 2018 World Rugby Under-20 Championship.
