  • Victor Osimhen scored the goal that won Napoli their first Scudetto in 33 years
  • The Nigerian equalised for Napoli in the 52nd minute and the champions held on
  • His goal also helped him break two records previously held by African legends

Victor Osimhen has helped Napoli to become Serie A champions for the first time in 33 years, through his equalising goal against Udinese in the second half.

The Nigerian powered home a shot through the crowd after a scramble from a corner kick, to help Napoli hold on and seal the Italian league title away from home in Udine.

Neapolitans put everything in place for a party at home last Sunday against Salernitana, but the team fell short of victory despite Inter Milan beating Lazio 3-1.

Osimhen breaks Eto'o's record

In the game, Osimhen scored his 22nd league goal of the season, making him the Serie A top scorer and setting a new record for most goals by an African player in the Italian top flight in a single season - a benchmark previously held by the legendary Samuel Eto'o, according to ESPN.

The Cameroonian icon scored 21 goals in the 2010/11 season for Inter Milan, who failed to retain the title they won a season earlier under Jose Mourinho by allowing city rival, AC Milan to pip them at the proverbial post.

Osimhen matches George Weah

With his 46th goal in the Italian league, Osimhen has now matched Liberian legend, George Weah for the most goals scored in the league by an African player, according to CBS Sports.

The 1995 Ballon d'Or winner spent five years in Milan and achieved his feat in 114 games, while the Nigerian striker has reached the tally in only 78 games in just his third season.

Osimhen wildly celebrates Napoli's victory

Sports Brief also reported on Osimhen wildly celebrating Napoli's victory in the dressing room after the Partenopei won the Scudetto with five games to spare.

The 24-year-old demonstrated his exuberance and turned up the heat with his teammates, sharing the moment with his fans via an Instagram Live video.

The party will certainly continue this morning when the team arrives back home in Naples, where thousands of fans will be waiting for their victorious team.
