However, their teammate, Chuck Howley, won the Most Valuable Player Award and thus became the first linebacker to take home the award only quarterbacks previously won.

7. 1972 season, vs Miami Dolphins (win)

The Cowboys made their second appearance and recorded their first win in 1972, playing against the Miami Dolphins with a score of 23-3. They held them to 185 yards with no single touchdown, an epic defeat to the Dolphins.

On the other hand, the Cowboys recorded 252 rushing yards, giving them a massive advantage over their opponents. Roger Staubach, Chuck Duane, and Thomas Howley were the most iconic players of that era.

6. 1976 season, vs Pittsburgh Steelers (loss)

The Dallas Cowboys lost in their third appearance to the Steelers with a score of 21-17 in 1976. The opponents proved to be better than them, as they were the first team to win the Super Bowl consecutively.

Although the Steelers were losing, they came up strong in the final quarter and scored 14 more points, with the Cowboys scoring only one touchdown.

5. 1978 season, vs Denver Broncos (win)

In the 1978 season, the Cowboys appeared and won against the Broncos with a score of 21-10. During the match, the squad made eight forced turnovers and allowed eight pass completions with 61 yards to the opponent.

The season's Super Bowl went down in history as the most-watched match, with over 100 million fans watching both at home and in the stadium. Additionally, it was the first Super Bowl to be played in the Eastern United States.

4. 1979 season, vs Pittsburgh Steelers (loss)

After losing to the Steelers three years earlier, the Dallas had a rare opportunity for a rematch, but they lost again 35-31. Both teams were hoping for a third win which would have transcended to being the first squad to bag the coveted award three times.

It was the most exciting and thrilling event to watch, featuring teams that had taken home the Super Bowl and won twice in the same decade. Eleven Cowboys players from the season's team ended up in the Hall of Fame.

3. 1993 season, vs Buffalo Bills (win)

The 90s were the best years the Dallas ever had, with a huge winning streak. They recorded their biggest win by scoring 52-17 against the Buffalo Bills, making the game look like a walk in the park.

The Cowboys had magnificent players like Troy Aikman, who made four touchdown passes, and Emmitt Smith, who made 108 rushing yards proving that they deserved to win the Super Bowl.

2. 1994 season, vs Buffalo Bills (win)

The Cowboys made their seventh appearance and recorded their fourth win, scoring 30-13 in a match against the Bills in the 1994 season. This was their second time defeating their opponents, the Bills, consecutively.

During the match, the Bills stood no chance as they were met by Emmitt Smith, who rushed for 132 yards and made two touchdowns.

The Boys finally avenged their opponent, with Hall of Famers Emmitt Smith and Michael Irwin being unstoppable and regarded as the team's most valuable members.
