Controversial judging in combat sports is again rearing its ugly head, this time at Noche UFC.

The main event of the evening saw Alex Grasso take on Valentina Shevchenko for the Flyweight championship, but one judge’s scorecard played a massive factor in the result of the fight.

As noted by MMA Mania, Grasso retained her title when the fight was declared a split draw.

One judge scored the fight 48-47 in favour of Grasso, while the other scored it 47-48 in favour of Shevchenko. The third judge scored it 47-47, meaning the fight was declared a split draw.

Mike Bell, who scored the fight 47-47, has come under fire after the scorecards were revealed. He scored the last round 10-8 in favour of Grasso despite the champion only taking control of the latter part of the round.

The other two judges scored it 10-9 in favour of the Mexican. If Bell had followed suit, Shevchenko would have won the 48-47 on his card, thereby winning the fight.

Social media soon erupted with posts about the decision, as fans questioned why Bell would score the round so high in favour of the champion.

@blinn_zach:

"No chance there was any 10-8 round. Mike Bell should never judge again!!!! #NocheUFC"

@Andrew_Penglase:

"Fire Mike Bell! No one can defend that scorecard. You, sir, are an embarrassment!"

@BestFightPicks:

"Yo this jobber Mike Bell gave Grasso a 10-8 round 5. You corrupt, Incompetent fraud. #NocheUFC"

Grasso retains Flyweight title

As Sports Brief previously reported, Alexa Grasso is still the UFC's reigning Flyweight champion.

Grasso retained her title when she shared the spoils with Valentina Shevchenko in the main event.

One judge scored in favour of Grasso, one in favour of Shevchenko, while the third scored it a draw.
