Wimbledon 2025 Withdrawal List: Marketa Vondrousova, Carlos Alcaraz Among 16 Players Out Ahead of Grand Slam

The Wimbledon withdrawal list continues to grow with one week to go before the main draw begins, with 16 players now confirmed absent across both the ATP and WTA draws, including 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova and world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz.

Wimbledon is set to begin its main draw in one week’s time, but the field has already been significantly reduced, with 16 players — nine from the men’s draw and seven from the women’s — confirmed as withdrawals ahead of the grass-court Grand Slam.

Among the most notable absentees on the men’s side is world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, who will be replaced in the draw by Jan Choinski. Lorenzo Musetti (world No. 15) and Valentin Vacherot (world No. 20) have also pulled out, with Matteo Berrettini and Sho Shimabukuro stepping in as their respective replacements.

The latest addition to the ATP withdrawal list is American Eliot Spizzirri (world No. 95), who has withdrawn due to an undisclosed injury. Spizzirri came to prominence at the 2025 Australian Open, where he pushed world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in a third-round contest. Playing in intense Melbourne heat, Spizzirri took the first set and secured a break in the second before conditions intervened — the heat index triggered the closure of the roof on Rod Laver Arena. Sinner subsequently recovered to win the second, third, and fourth sets. Spizzirri’s place at Wimbledon has been taken by fellow American Martin Damm Jr.

The full ATP withdrawal list is as follows: Carlos Alcaraz (world No. 2) replaced by Jan Choinski; Lorenzo Musetti (world No. 15) replaced by Matteo Berrettini; Valentin Vacherot (world No. 20) replaced by Sho Shimabukuro; Tomas Machac (world No. 42) replaced by Jesper de Jong; Sebastian Korda (world No. 46) replaced by Alexandre Muller; Holger Rune (world No. 63) replaced by Titouan Droguet; Arthur Cazaux (world No. 81) replaced by Alex Molcan; Eliot Spizzirri (world No. 95) replaced by Martin Damm Jr.; and Reilly Opelka (world No. 102) replaced by Dalibor Svrcina.

On the women’s side, the draw has lost seven players in total. The two most recent withdrawals are Cristina Bucsa (world No. 35) and Marketa Vondrousova (world No. 120). Bucsa has been ruled out with a wrist injury, ending her participation before she had the chance to improve on her best-ever Wimbledon showing — a third-round run at last year’s edition. She will be replaced by Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva.

Vondrousova’s absence carries additional weight given her history at the tournament. The Czech player memorably won Wimbledon in 2023 as an unseeded player, becoming the first unseeded woman to claim the title in the Open Era. However, a four-year ban from tennis means she will not have the opportunity to defend or build on that achievement. Nadia Podoroska comes in as her replacement.

The full WTA withdrawal list reads: Victoria Mboko (world No. 9) replaced by Darja Vidmanova; Hailey Baptiste (world No. 30) replaced by Hanne Vandewinkel; Cristina Bucsa (world No. 35) replaced by Victoria Jiménez Kasintseva; Varvara Gracheva (world No. 71) replaced by Sinja Kraus; Sonay Kartal (world No. 72) replaced by Paula Badosa; Veronika Kudermetova (world No. 86) replaced by Francesca Jones; and Marketa Vondrousova (world No. 120) replaced by Nadia Podoroska.

With the main draw still a week away, further withdrawals remain possible. The attrition in both draws will have implications for seedings and match scheduling, particularly on the men’s side where Alcaraz’s absence removes one of the tournament’s most high-profile contenders from the field entirely.
