Ruud's road to the quarters

Ruud is making a trip back to the French Open quarterfinals. The world no. 4 eked out a 7-6 (3), 7-5, 7-5 victory over Chilean, Nicolas Jarry in the fourth round to advance to the last eight at Roland Garros, per ATP.

The Norwegian had his service game going, winning 71 percent of his first serve points against Jarry. He also won 50 percent of his second-serve points in the fourth round.

Ruud’s 31 winners against Jarry pumped his tournament total to 132. He’ll be looking to blast more against Rune, whom he has an advantage over in their career head-to-head matchup.

Ruud is 4-1 lifetime versus Rune, with the former winning at Roland Garros last year, pulling off a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 win in the quarterfinal round.

Rune's road to the quarters

Holger Rune’s quest for a first French Open crown is still very much alive after a thrilling 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7) win over Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round on Monday.

It was an impressive display from the 20-year-old, who needed three hours and 59 minutes to oust the Argentinian, per BBC.

Playing on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, the Dane displayed the aggressiveness that made him one of the most feared players in the men’s game. He blasted 48 winners in the fourth round against Cerundolo.

With the victory, Rune booked a place in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros for the second straight year. He will next face Ruud in a rematch of last year’s French Open quarterfinal.

Rune will fancy his chances against Ruud as he finally defeated him in their last meeting, edging past him 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals of the Rome Masters last month.

For Rune to grab the all-important victory against Ruud, he will need to find ways to limit his miscues. He committed a whopping 73 unforced errors in the win against Cerundolo.

Alcaraz, Tsitsipas lock horns

Sports Brief recently previewed the French Open quarterfinal between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz.

Both players reached the quarterfinals with ease, winning their respective fourth-round matches in straight sets.

Alcaraz holds a 4-0 record against Tsitsipas in their head-to-head matchup ahead of their quarters clash.
