As noted by The Guardian, Nadal has withdrawn from the French Open due to a hip injury. The same hip injury has kept him out of competition since the beginning of the year.

“I was working as much as possible for the last four months,” he said when discussing his injuries.
“It has been very difficult because we have not been able to find the solution to the problem I had in Australia. So I’m still in the position that I’m not able to feel ready to compete at the standards I need to be to play Roland Garros,” Nadal added.

Nadal’s impressive record in France

The Spanish sensation has dominated Roland Garros since his debut in 2005. As noted by the tournament’s website, Nadal has won 14 of the 18 events he has competed in.

Roland Garros has also erected a statue of him on its grounds; such has been his dominance at the event.

Nadal considers retirement in 2024

The former world number one also discussed the possibility of retiring in 2024, as he struggles to recover from injuries as quickly as before. The 37-year-old Spaniard wants to take a break for a while so that he can come back stronger.

“My goal is to try to stop, to give myself an opportunity to enjoy next year. That’s probably going to be my last year in the professional tour.
“That’s my idea, even if I can’t say 100% that it’s going to be like this, because you never know what will happen."

He added that he just wanted to try and say goodbye to all the tournaments that have been important in his career, enjoy being competitive, and enjoy being on the court again.

Nadal withdraws from Monte Carlo

Rafael Nadal will miss the Monte Carlo Masters tournament for the second straight year.

The Spaniard announced on Tuesday that he has failed to recover in time for next week’s tournament from a hip injury that has sidelined him for months.

He was injured during the second round of the Australian Open last January, Sports Brief reported.
