Former South African Rugby Coach Suffers Heartbreak, Peter De Villiers’ Wife Dies After Drowning in a Pool

The wife of former South African rugby coach, Peter de Villiers, has tragically passed away.

62-year-old Theresa de Villiers was reported dead after her body was found floating in a pool in Gqeberha. It is believed that she was visiting family at the time of her death.

The South African confirmed that an inquest docket was opened by police after a family member found her body. She was declared dead at the scene by the emergency workers who reported to the matter.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, confirmed that no foul play was suspected. The South African also mentioned that de Villiers’ was notified of his wife’s death but was too distraught to speak.

Condolences have already poured in from members of the Good Party (where De Villiers was a member) and Eastern Province Rugby (where De Villiers previously coached).

Last year, former Springbok Jannie du Plessis, also had a loved one die due to a tragic drowning. Du Plessis’ ten-month-old son drowned on the same day that du Plessis was celebrating his 39th birthday, SkySports confirmed. Du Plessis’ son fell into the family pool and sadly drowned.

Latest media reports suggest that former Springboks forward Jannie du Plessis has lost his one-year-old child after drowning on Tuesday. Various local media publications indicate that Du Plessis is devastated by the news.

The former Boks international also celebrated his 39th birthday on Tuesday and he is currently contracted with the Gauteng Lions, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli has expressed sadness as he spoke to a local sports website and confirmed the tragic news. The Ellis Park-based franchise's boss also pleaded with the public to respect the family’s privacy.
