The Miami Heat have done well without Tyler Herro in the 2023 NBA playoffs and will have to make do without him in a crucial Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals.

The guard has been ruled out with a broken hand he suffered on April 16 in the opening round of the playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The 23-year-old underwent surgery days after the injury and was tipped to return sometime early in the NBA Finals, but he hasn't been able to clear the final hurdle.

The Heat lost Game 3 109-94, and it was clear the Heat need all the help they could get, especially from their consistent guard. The Heat are now 1-2 down and cannot afford to lose Game 4. Going back to Denver 1-3 down is not the best situation, but they have shown incredible resilience this season.

Spoelstra on Herro availability

Heat role players Caleb Martin, Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, and Duncan Robinson have carried the scoring load in Herro's absence, but as we saw in Game 3, they can't do it every game, per the Athletic.

Spoelstra said Herro is yet to be cleared.

"This is just part of the process," Spoelstra said. "You have to go through stages. First part of it was just shooting, then movement, then contact versus coaches, and then the next level of contact in practice. He has not been cleared for a game, and he is still not cleared yet," via ESPN.

Herro averaged 20.1 points per game in the regular season.

Butler dissects Game 3

Sports Brief earlier reported on Heat star Jimmy Butler promising to set the tone in Game 4. He questioned his team's energy in Game 3.

They were outrebounded 58-33, with three Nuggets players recording double-figures in rebounds.

For the Heat, Bam Adebayo had 22 points and 17 rebounds. No other Heat player had more than four rebounds. Moreover, only two Heat players scored in double figures.
