Golden State Warriors are holding their breaths after their talisman Stephen Curry left the game after sustaining an injury during their narrow 119-113 win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Curry left the game in the third quarter after he was hit on his left leg by McKinley Wright IV's knee. The hit saw him hobble to the stands in pain. X-Rays were negative, but an MRI will reveal the true extent of his injury.

The Warriors' superstar had just returned from a shoulder injury that kept him out for just over a month. They certainly cannot afford to lose their star given how their season is going.

He left the game with the team up 20 against a Mavericks team without Luka Doncic. However, the short-handed Mavs cut the lead to five, but they managed to hold on to seal an important win which gives them a 27-26 record and a 7th spot in the Western Conference.

The defending NBA champions have only 29 games left and need to get wins to climb up the standings considering the chaotic conference. The fourth and 12th seeds are separated by just three games, per the Athletic.

Steve Kerr reaction to the injury

Warriors coach Steve Kerr is concerned about the results of the MRI. He said he hasn't spoken to Curry or Rick Celebrini, the team's lead medical expert but he is keeping his fingers crossed.

"This has happened many, many times over the years, so fingers crossed that he's OK," via NBC Sports.

Curry had a team-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. If he is going to miss a substantial amount of time, Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins will need to step up. The two scored a combined 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field and 1-of-4 from deep.

Warriors fans reactions

Warriors fans have seen Curry suffer from many injuries in his 14-year career and are hoping it is nothing serious. Here are some of their reactions.

@omosomi:

"Hope it’s nothing too serious primary reason load management is important and need for the team to have depth…so as to reduce the strain on the starters."

@ryancashh:

"Love Steph but my God does he get hurt a lot. Every year he’s out 15+ games at least."

@MarkTomeh"

"It wasn't non-contact though. I say it's a bruised knee or MCL

@dfdorsey17:

"If Steph misses anytime-season over for the Warriors."

@UpwardOnIy:

"Lower leg better than a knee injury. From what I saw, he got hit in knee and it caused tension on his side of his calf few inches from knee. Idk what that injury would be though haha."

Curry debunks load management

Sports Brief earlier reported on Curry explaining the true nature of load management in the NBA. The phenomenon has sparked heated debates among the fan base this season.

The two-time NBA MVP said it is not the player that decides if he wants to play or not, admitting that it is always the other way around.

Many star players usually miss games when their team is playing on back-to-back nights, many times inconveniencing fans who paid for tickets to come to watch them.
