2022/23 NBA MVP candidate Luka Doncic produced another epic performance against the Detroit Pistons on his return from injury. He dropped 53 points as the Dallas Mavericks won 111-105.

With that performance, he joins Michael Jordan, the late Kobe Bryant, and James Harden as the only players to score at least 50 points before February.

It was the fourth 50-point performance of the season for the Slovenian young star who was recently named as a starter for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.

He went 17-of-24 from the field, 5-of-11 from deep and also had a heated exchange with Pistons assistant coach Jerome Allen.

Doncic matches Jordan, Bryant and Harden

The 2019 Rookie of the Year is only the fourth player in league history to register four 50-point games before February, joining Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and James Harden. The latter achieved that milestone three times, per ESPN.

The Pistons tried to trap the point guard, and although it worked in the second quarter, the Mavericks upped the pace in the second half, thwarting the Piston's defensive schemes on him.

"Sometimes you've just got to accept the coverage when they're doubling," "If I would have waited, they would still come double. But sometimes just before they go, attack. And attack the paint every time."

Doncic also joins Jordan and LeBron James as the only players to have at least five 50-point games in their first five seasons in the last 50 years. Jordan had 17 while James has 5.

Fans reaction to Doncic's performance

@Kennyduhballern:

"Bros first game back from injury and he had to drop 50 with the next highest scorer having 12 just to beat Detroit by 6 get him help."

@bernakingsley:

"Statpadding against the worst team in the league."

@User1236Legoat:

"Luka Doncic is a talented player, but it is premature to crown him as the best in the NBA. He still has much room for improvement and faces stiff competition from other players such as LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Stephen Curry. The title of best player is earned."

@ddanniok7:

"I’m taking this Luka Doncic over curry 2016 in my list of all time"

@GeorgeEmmilton:

"He's in a league of his own."

Doncic drives tank-like car to NBA game

Sports Brief earlier reported on Doncic driving a heavy, tank-like truck to an NBA game.

He was driving an Apocalypse 'Hellfire' 6X6 and by the radiant smile on his face, he knew his car was flashy.

Dubbed the 'Hellfire', the vehicle is a heavy-duty six-wheeler that could be confused with an iteration of Batman’s iconic Batmobile.

Recently, the Slovenian stole the show by rolling up to a game in a light blue old-school motorcar with shiny rims. He topped it off by wearing a cowboy hat, bolo tie and cowboy boots.
