The Brooklyn Nets have been dealt a crushing blow as they're set to be without their talisman Kevin Durant, who has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain.

Durant was injured in the Nets' narrow win over the Miami Heat on Sunday, and they will have to make do without him for a while.

The 34-year-old was enjoying a terrific season which helped the Nets climb up to second in the Eastern Conference, and many fans fear his absence will result in another poor run.

The 2x NBA Finals MVP suffered almost the same injury last season, which resulted in a terrible run for the Nets.

However, with the team beaming with confidence, Kyrie Irving and Co will need to step up and try and fill Durant's massive shoes.

Durant to miss up to a month

According to ESPN, Durant is expected to miss a month of NBA action after he was diagnosed with an isolated MCL sprain of his right knee and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

The 2014 MVP missed six weeks with the same injury last season, but there is hope that the injury he sustained on Sunday is less severe, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

When he went down last season, the Nets were 5-17 in his absence and had to endure an 11-game losing streak.

The former Oklahoma City Thunder forward is in the NBA MVP conversation this season. He is averaging 30 points, 6.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists which has lifted the Nets to second in the Eastern Conference.

Durant likened to greatest scorers

Sports Brief earlier reported on Atlanta Hawks icon Dominique Wilkins likening Durant to NBA scoring greats after his latest scoring milestone.

Durant passed Wilkins for 14th in NBA all-time scoring. He heaped praise on the 2014 MVP, saying Durant is one of the best scorers of all time because of his unstoppable jumper and confidence.

"He stacks up with the greatest scorers to ever play this game. It’s as simple as that.”
