The performance was his first 40-plus point game since March of last season, where he scored 50 points against the Washington Wizards. It was also his second-highest point total on his birthday.

Coincidentally, he scored 48 points on his 25th birthday back in 2009, which amazingly came against the Hawks, per CBS Sports.

On Friday, he didn't let a slow 1-for-5 start in the first quarter affect him as he went on to put up a show to end the year on a high note.

Tatum reacts to James masterclass

Tatum, who is enjoying a terrific season with the Celtics this season, said that it is astonishing that he will witness James become the NBA all-time leader in scoring.

James is expected to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the all-time scoring list at some point next year, and Tatum says it is going to be wild, per SI.

"Sitting here watching the lakers play…. Sometime later this season Bron gone be able to say he’s scored more points than anyone to ever play this game… lol that’s wild"

According to ESPN, James needs 528 points to pass Abdul-Jabbar and at his career average of 27.1 points, he would need 20 games to pass the record which has stood since 1984.

Nowitzki on James

Sports Brief earlier reported on Dallas Mavericks icon Dirk Nowitzki saying that if James passes Abdul-Jabbar, the GOAT conversation will be different.

Nowitzki said if LeBron passes Abdul-Jabbar, he could become the greatest NBA player of all time.

"I always say Michael Jordan is the GOAT," Nowitzki added, "but if [James] really surpasses Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar] with the scoring record, I'm sort of running out of arguments for Michael."
