Elon Musk: Tesla owner jokes about buying Manchester United amidst protests from fans over current owners
In the same period, Lewis Hamilton has pulled level with Michael Schumacher for most Formula 1 championships. Hamilton lost the title last season to Max Verstappen, but Mercedes still retained their constructors' championship.
It is this success that Wolff wants to be replicated for a long time, unlike the struggle United is going through at the moment. The Red Devils were a string force during the era of Sir Alex Ferguson but have fallen off the pace in recent years.
In an interview with Financial Times, the 51-year-old Austrian quipped that,
I studied why great teams were unable to repeat great title runs. No sports team in any sport has ever won eight consecutive World Championship titles; there are many reasons for that. And what is at the core is the human.
Mercedes are involved in an intense battle to retain its title this year after an extremely lethargic start to the season. They currently sit in third with 304 points. Red Bull leads the standings with 431 points.
