The two Democratic Republic of Congo fighters battled it out for the title in what was billed as the battle of the giants.

The first round was a cagey affair as both fighters tried to size each other up. Djikasa used his speed advantage to get away from Mbuyi’s power. Neither fighter really showed much in the first round, though.

The second saw Djikasa take an early advantage as he targeted Mbuyi’s legs, dropping him for a few seconds. Djikasa looked the more confident fighter as he realised that he had the reach advantage as well.

As described by the commentators, Djikasa was playing with his food, as he toyed with Mbuyi throughout the fight.

Mbuyi looked like he was planted in the hexagon and never mounted much of a challenge. His quest for gold ended in the third round when Djikasa knocked him to the ground and continued to land shots until the referee stopped the fight.

The fight promised to be a good one, given the animosity before the fight.

HHH Power Djikasa wrote off Mbuyi before the fight, based on his age. Mbuyi is 49 years old.

“He’s too old to be hitting me and knocking me down,” Djikasa said before the fight.

Sadly the win was overshadowed by the events after the fight.

Djikasa's celebrations angered Mbuyi's camp, and some of his trainers tried to fight Djikasa through the cage. Djikasa punched back and Mbuyi then rushed forward to attack Djikasa from the back.

Security had to step in and quickly stop Djikasa and Mbuyi from going at it again. Mbuyi had to be removed from the hexagon before Djikasa could be presented with his title.
