Former Nigerian international Dimeji Lawal has voiced strong belief that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen possesses the qualities required to succeed at Real Madrid or Barcelona, should a summer transfer to La Liga materialise.

Speaking to Completesports.com, Lawal was unequivocal in his assessment of the 27-year-old’s readiness for Spanish football. “I really don’t think Osimhen will have any issue when it comes to fitting into Real Madrid or Barcelona. Osimhen has already shown that he’s a proven goal scorer and can perform at the highest level,” he said.

Lawal further argued that the attacking infrastructure at both clubs would serve Osimhen’s game well, pointing to the quality of creative players available at each side. “I am very certain that he will be grabbing the goal headlines with ease if he joins either of the two clubs because they have quality players who will supply him with those passes for him to score,” he added.

According to reports, both Real Madrid and Barcelona are among the clubs monitoring Osimhen’s situation ahead of the upcoming transfer window. The striker’s attributes — including his pace, movement, and finishing — are understood to be well suited to the high-tempo, chance-heavy systems deployed by both European giants.

Osimhen built his reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards during his time at Napoli, where his performances helped the club win the Serie A title in the 2022-23 season — their first league championship in over three decades. He has since been on loan at Galatasaray in the Turkish Süper Lig, though his time there has not been without difficulty. The striker publicly apologised following a poor display in a 4-1 defeat to Samsunspor on 2 May, a result that delayed the Istanbul club’s push for a fourth consecutive league title.

A potential transfer fee for Osimhen is expected to exceed €100 million, according to reports, placing him among the most expensive strikers available on the market this summer.

If a move to Spain does come to fruition, Osimhen would reunite with Super Eagles teammate Ademola Lookman on the Iberian Peninsula. Lookman joined Atletico Madrid in January and has shown positive form since his arrival at the club. The winger had previously attracted widespread attention after a standout 2023-24 campaign with Atalanta, which included a hat-trick in their UEFA Europa League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

Lawal’s comments reflect a broader confidence within Nigerian football circles regarding Osimhen’s ability to compete at the highest level. At 27, the striker remains in the peak years of his career, and a move to La Liga — should it occur — would represent the next step in a trajectory that has already taken him from Wolfsburg and Charleroi to Napoli and beyond.
