Victor Osimhen’s recent public declarations about his future have complicated Barcelona’s summer transfer planning, with the 27-year-old Super Eagles striker signalling he has no intention of leaving Galatasaray despite the Catalan club’s growing interest.
Barcelona had reportedly submitted an unofficial, exploratory bid for Osimhen after internally acknowledging that signing primary target Julián Álvarez is highly unlikely. However, the Nigerian forward’s stated contentment at Galatasaray — where he has described the club as his home — casts serious doubt over whether any formal approach would succeed.
Osimhen’s willingness to decline advances from elite clubs is well established. During the 2025 winter transfer window, he turned down a desperate approach from Manchester United, choosing instead to complete his loan spell at Galatasaray before eventually signing permanently. That decision reportedly infuriated the hierarchy at his former club Napoli, who had structured their January transfer activity around the anticipated proceeds from his sale.
The striker’s attachment to Galatasaray — commonly referred to by supporters as Cim-Bom — is widely attributed to the extraordinary bond he has formed with the club’s fanbase. The depth of that connection was brought into sharp focus ahead of Galatasaray’s Champions League fixture against Liverpool at Rams Park, when thousands of home supporters unveiled a large tifo depicting Osimhen alongside a portrait of his late mother. The gesture visibly moved the forward to tears.
That level of emotional investment from supporters appears to carry significant weight in Osimhen’s transfer thinking. Prior to committing to Galatasaray on a permanent basis, the forward had already declined highly lucrative offers from clubs in the Saudi Pro League — a market that has attracted numerous high-profile names in recent seasons — in order to remain in Istanbul.
Osimhen has maintained a consistent standard of output since joining the Turkish side, scoring 20 goals across competitions in back-to-back seasons for Galatasaray. That form has sustained interest from clubs across Europe’s top leagues, with Barcelona now among those monitoring his situation.
For Barcelona, the situation represents a significant complication. With their pursuit of Álvarez described internally as unlikely to materialise, Osimhen had emerged as a credible alternative. Should the Nigerian maintain his position and decline to engage with any approach from the Camp Nou hierarchy, the Blaugrana will need to reassess their attacking reinforcement options ahead of the 2026-27 season.
No official transfer request or formal bid has been confirmed at this stage, and Osimhen has not publicly addressed the Barcelona reports directly. According to reports, the exploratory nature of Barcelona’s interest means formal negotiations have not yet begun.
