Victor Osimhen Emerges as Barcelona’s €100m Transfer Target as Fans Demand Super Eagles Star Over Julián Álvarez

FC Barcelona are reportedly weighing a move for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as an alternative to primary target Julián Álvarez, with supporters increasingly vocal that the Nigerian forward should lead the club's summer recruitment.

FC Barcelona’s pursuit of a striker ahead of the summer transfer window has taken a notable turn, with Nigeria international Victor Osimhen emerging as a serious candidate on the club’s shortlist. According to reports, the Blaugrana are considering the Galatasaray forward as an alternative to their preferred target, Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez, whose valuation has complicated any potential deal.

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is said to be a significant admirer of the 26-year-old Super Eagles striker, and the Catalan club are reportedly prepared to submit an opening offer of up to €100 million to bring Osimhen to Camp Nou. Financial constraints, however, remain a central obstacle — Osimhen would likely need to adjust his current salary expectations to align with Barcelona’s wage structure, even as the club signals its intent to make a substantial investment in its attacking department.

Osimhen’s current form at Galatasaray provides context for the reported interest. The Nigerian has registered 19 goals and seven assists across 29 appearances this season, numbers that have reinforced his reputation as one of European football’s most complete centre-forwards. His combination of physical presence, aggressive pressing, and clinical finishing has drawn attention from several top clubs beyond Barcelona.

Despite being framed in reports as a secondary option, many Barcelona supporters have pushed back firmly against that characterisation. Social media posts from fans, published on 21 April 2026, made clear that a significant portion of the club’s support base view Osimhen as the more desirable signing.

One supporter wrote: “They are looking at Victor Osimhen as a possible plan B signing… lol. Victor Osimhen will always be plan A signing in my book.” Another added: “Honestly we need Osimhen as our priority target for the summer. His goal hunting, sharpness in goal and aggressive pressing is what we actually miss from all our present strikers. Deco please do us only this one wish and we will be forever grateful.” A third was more direct: “This should be a plan A. Osimhen is a proper striker and lethal.”

A fourth fan stated: “He should be plan A. First plan and the only plan for the fucking number 9 we need.”

Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli ahead of the 2024-25 season after a move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed at the final stage of last summer’s transfer window. His performances in Turkey have sustained his market value and kept him prominently in transfer conversations across Europe’s major leagues. Napoli retain his registration, meaning any permanent transfer would involve negotiations with the Italian club.

For Barcelona, the striker question has been a recurring theme. With Robert Lewandowski entering the final phase of his career at the club, the need for a long-term successor at centre-forward is well established. Álvarez remains the club’s stated preference, according to reports, but his price tag and competition from other suitors have prompted the technical staff to identify alternatives.

As the summer window approaches, Barcelona’s decision on how to prioritise their striker targets will carry significant consequences for their attacking setup heading into the 2026-27 campaign. Whether Osimhen ultimately moves from a reported alternative to the leading candidate remains to be seen, though the volume of fan sentiment on the matter is unlikely to go unnoticed within the club’s hierarchy.
