A LaLiga record that had endured for nearly a quarter of a century came to an end on April 19, 2026, when RCD Mallorca striker Vedat Muriqi overtook Samuel Eto’o as the club’s all-time top scorer in Spain’s top division.
Muriqi reached the landmark during Mallorca’s commanding 3-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano, in which the Kosovan forward scored twice. The brace lifted his cumulative LaLiga tally for the club to 55 goals, moving him one clear of the mark Eto’o had held since his time at the club in the early 2000s.
Eto’o, widely regarded as one of the greatest African footballers in history, responded to the achievement with a message directed at Muriqi: “From Cameroon, Vedat, I send you my congratulations and best wishes for what you’ve just accomplished. I’m happy for what you’ve done, and I know it’s taken a lot of work. I ask you to keep it up, to keep enjoying yourself and making our Mallorca even greater. Congratulations to you and all your teammates who have helped you. Well done!”
The 31-year-old striker joined Mallorca in 2022 and has since established himself as the cornerstone of the club’s attack. During his time at the club, Mallorca have navigated successive relegation battles and reached a Copa del Rey final, with Muriqi’s contributions central to both achievements.
This season has been the most productive of his career. Muriqi has registered 21 LaLiga goals — surpassing his previous personal best of 17 — with seven matches still remaining on the fixture calendar. That output places him second in the Pichichi standings, behind only Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé in the race for the division’s individual scoring honour.
The scale of Muriqi’s influence on Mallorca’s season is underscored by a single statistic: the club has scored just 39 goals in LaLiga this season, meaning his 21-goal contribution accounts for approximately 54% of their total attacking output. That figure highlights how dependent Mallorca have been on the striker to generate results and maintain their position above the relegation zone.
While the LaLiga record at Mallorca now belongs to Muriqi, Eto’o is reported to still hold the club’s broader modern-era scoring record across all competitions. Should Muriqi continue at his current rate, that mark could also come under scrutiny before his Mallorca career concludes.
Eto’o’s connection to Mallorca remains significant in the club’s history. The Cameroonian forward spent formative years at the club before his high-profile transfers to Barcelona and Inter Milan, where he would go on to win multiple UEFA Champions League titles and establish himself among Europe’s elite strikers. His record at Mallorca had therefore carried considerable historical weight.
For Muriqi, the timing of the record is particularly meaningful. With Mallorca still engaged in a battle to secure top-flight survival, his goals carry immediate practical consequences beyond personal milestones. Seven games remain for the club to confirm their LaLiga status for next season, and Muriqi’s form will be pivotal to that outcome.
