  • Dele Alli was one of England's brightest prospects when he moved to Tottenham in 2014
  • The two-time Premier League young player of the year's career is in a downward spiral
  • He is currently on loan at Turkish club Besiktas after joining on a season loan from Everton

Former Tottenham midfielder, Dele Alli took the Premier League by storm when he joined Spurs from MK Dons in 2015, winning consecutive PFA Young Player of the year awards in his first two seasons in the top division.

He has played 37 times for England and was part of the Three Lions squad at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup, his last major appearance for his country.

Alli's career has taken a downward spiral since helping the North London club reach the 2019 UEFA Champions League final, which they lost to fellow English club, Liverpool in what many consider the most boring UCL final ever.

Alli banished from Besiktas squad

As reported by Sky Sports, Alli joined Everton in the winter window of 2022 and after failing to make an impact, he was shipped out on loan to Besiktas in July that year, with certain conditions to make the deal permanent.

He has also failed to make an impact in Turkey and will likely return to the Toffees in the summer. With the English club battling relegation, they now also need to find a solution for their investment gone wrong - a player they spent £40 million on.

As reported by Turkish publication, Takvim, the 26-year-old has been banished from the club's matchday squad and will be in the stands until the end of the season, at which point he will return to England.

This news brings to mind the advice given to the versatile midfielder by Jose Mourinho, who said in an interview that Alli would regret not demanding more of himself, reported by Marca.

''I don't expect [Alli] to be the man of the match every game or to score in every game. I just want to tell you that you will regret it. You should demand more of yourself, not me [demanding] more of you, not me. Not anyone. You. You have to demand more from yourself," the Special One said at the time.

Manager disappointed with Alli

The banishment of Alli was a long time coming. In January, Sports Brief reported on Besiktas boss, Senol Gunes giving a worrying update on the player.

At the time, the Turkish club boss admitted the England midfielder was no longer deserving of playing for the team due to his concerning lack of form.

Gunes was the seventh manager to have issues with Alli after coaches including Mauricio Pochettino, Ryan Mason, Antonio Conte, and Frank Lampard.
