  • Antonio Conte has admitted Harry Kane needs to get a trophy soon to match his records
  • Kane is yet to win a major trophy in his career despite his amazing goalscoring prowess
  • He has in the past tried to ditch Tottenham but is reportedly ready to sign a new contract

Much has always been said about Harry Kane's lack of trophies, despite a glittering career that has seen him become one of the best strikers in world football.

On January 23, the Three Lions captain drew level with Jimmy Greaves as Tottenham Hotspur's all-time top scorer. His well-taken goal against Fulham was the difference-maker at Craven Cottage.

That Kane is a top striker is undeniable. In fact, he has the full package: he can produce defence-splitting passes like Kevin De Bruyne, and scores them as well as Robert Lewandowski or Ronaldo Nazario.

However, save for multiple Golden Boots and other individual awards, he has nothing to show for it. Kane's best achievement at Spurs remains the time they finished second behind Chelsea in the Premier League in 2017, and reaching the Champions League final in 2019.

Kane has no major trophies

Talks of him considering extending his current deal past 2024 were rampant on Monday, with many questioning what sort of legacy he will have once he retires. Because one should face it - Kane is not getting any younger at age 29.

One of the people who seem to agree with this is his current manager, Antonio Conte. Conte's appointment last season and subsequent heavy spending in the summer sparked hopes that Spurs might finally win a trophy, with Kane and Heung-min Son at the front.

But things haven't gone their way, with Spurs currently 14 points behind leaders Arsenal. They face AC Milan in the Champions League round of 16 and Preston in the FA Cup.

Conte wants trophies for Kane

Conte was unfazed by Kane's record-equalling goal. The Premier League winner with Chelsea wants more for his striker, not just a lot of goals.

"It should be good if together we were able to win something, because then it is important to have this record, but I think it could be more important if you win a trophy," Conte said as quoted by the Guardian.

Manchester City were ready to break the bank for him two seasons ago, but they eventually got Erling Haaland after Daniel Levy's refusal to budge. There is now talk of a bid from Manchester United, with Bayern Munich in the conversation too in the past.

It could be any of these or Kane stays in north London past 2024. But either way, he desperately needs a trophy before he calls it quits.

Bayern will struggle for Kane

Sports Brief reported that Uli Hoeness is not optimistic that Bayern Munich can can sign English forward Kane in the summer, despite their reported interest in the Tottenham Hotspur striker.

Kane has been heavily linked with a move to the reigning Bundesliga champions, with reports suggesting the Bavarians could make a bid for the 30-year-old forward in the summer.

Hoeness however, who resigned as Bayern Munich’s president in 2019, expressed belief that the English star would not make the switch to the Allianz Arena for financial reasons.
