  • Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli was blanked by his Brazil World Cup 2022 teammate Richarlison
  • The two forwards met during the North London Derby on Sunday, January 15th on Tottenham's home turf
  • Arsenal and Martinelli had bragging rights at the end of the game after winning 2-0

Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison was in no mood for pleasantries with Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli when the two sides met on January 15th.

It was Richarlison's first return since the World Cup after recovering from a thigh injury. Martinelli meanwhile kept his place in Arsenal's starting eleven.

Arsenal ran riot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and raced to a 2-0 lead before the break. Hugo Lloris had a howler by turning in a Bukayo Saka cross while Martin Odegaard added the second from outside the box.

Antonio Conte's side began the second half in promising fashion looking to restore parity but couldn't beat a resilient defence marshalled by Aaron Ramsdale. Richarlison's introduction later on didn't help matters either as Arsenal completed the double over their North London rivals.

Richarlison snub

Before Richarlison was brought on, Martinelli attempted to shake hands with his international compatriot who was warming up near the corner flag. As Martinelli went on to take an Arsenal corner, he held his hand out for a handshake but was completely blanked by the Spurs man.

Both players were part of Brazil's failed attempt to win the World Cup last month in Qatar. Richarlison starred in the group stages as Brazil's lead striker with Martinelli accorded a few minutes by former Head Coach Tite.

The South American giants were however shockingly eliminated by Croatia in the quarterfinals to postpone their dream for a sixth-record crown.

Martinelli's skill

Sports Brief has also reported that Brazilian attacker, Gabriel Martinelli gave the fans a moment to savour in the second half, after a Ronaldinho-esque display of showboating, much to the pleasure of the Arsenal faithful.

The ball was dispatched to Martinelli's wing from a quick free kick in the 67th minute, and with plenty of space, he turned and controlled the ball with his back, much to the displeasure of Argentina defender, Cuti Romero.

The Gunners fans were in awe of what their star did and felt he could not have done it against a better opponent than their rival, in front of the Tottenham fans to boot.
