As noted by Goal, Lloris called an end to his international career after more than 14 years with the French national team. He will still play club football for Spurs in the English Premier League.

The veteran keeper was part of France's World Cup win in 2018 and captained the side to a runners-up spot in the 2022 edition. He ended his international career as France’s most-capped player, having made 145 appearances for the team.

While explaining his decision to step down, Lloris explained that he wanted to go out while he was still at the top of his game.

He also spoke about the need for more family time.

"I prefer to go out being at the top, than to wait for a drop in speed or too much competition. There is also a family choice; I feel the need to spend more time with my wife and my children," he said.

Lloris rues poor first half

Argentina's triumph over France, in the final of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, dominated headlines for many days and weeks, ever since Gonzalo Montiel took that decisive kick.

Les Bleus are licking their wounds after a slow start to the game cost them, and if not for a late fightback and Kylian Mbappe's hat-trick brilliance, the game could have ended at a one-sided 2-0.

France captain and goalkeeper, Lloris has highlighted where it all went wrong for the 2018 winners, Sports Brief reported.
