  • Harry Kane has been consistently spotted wearing strapping around his ankle
  • The Tottenham man’s fitness has become a point of concern among England fans
  • Kane was visibly hurt during the Three Lions' 6-2 win over Iran several days ago

England marksman Harry Kane has dispelled fears over his fitness, as he insists he is fully capable of playing in the World Cup knockout stages.

The Three Lions are set for a round-of-16 showdown with African giants Senegal for a place in the quarter-final, and there has been slight concern that Kane’s fitness might render England short of attacking power up front.

The striker went down injured from a challenge by Iran’s Morteza Pouraliganji last week, despite England cruising to a 6-2 victory.

He somehow managed to play the entire 90 minutes in the drab 0-0 stalemate against the USA, but against Wales on Tuesday, he was withdrawn after 58 minutes as England won 3-0.

Speaking to BBC, cited by The Sun, Kane insisted he was fine and his fitness should not concern Three Lions fans.

“I've definitely played with worse stuff throughout my career," he commented.

Kane said he could well have 'easily' played the full 90 against the Welsh, but Gareth Southgate switched him for tactical reasons.

If his injury did prove too dire to go on in the competition, the Spurs man said the England squad had the depth to cope without him.

“I know the hype and the noise that can come around with injury. But to be honest, the team isn’t just me; we have 26 players here who are all looking to achieve the same thing, to win the World Cup."

Rashford’s reason behind goal celebration

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Marcus Rashford’s reason for his goal celebration after scoring against Wales.

Rashford scored twice, including a stunning free kick effort, as Gareth Southgate’s men advanced to the knockout stages as group winners.

It has since been revealed that the celebration is actually a tribute to a friend, who recently lost his battle with cancer.

Harry Maguire’s hilarious shot

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire also stole headlines for his wayward cross during the win over Wales.

In a video going viral on social media, the Manchester United centre-back decided to take matters into his own hands as he embarked on an attack.

Once at the edge of the penalty area, he unleashed a cross which ended up going hopelessly wide - to the amusement of social media users.
