Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has fired a warning to his players following a last-minute collapse in the Champions League that saw them lose 2-0 to Sporting CP.

The wasteful North London side was set to settle for a point in Portugal, but two injury-time goals saw them suffer their first defeat of the season.

Conte warning to his players

Tottenham had lots of chances to score goals but failed to capitalize. Conte scolded his players, saying they have to rise to the occasion.

Now, instead of a draw, we are talking about a loss against a team used to playing in this competition. It's a pity.
All of the players know the level is an important level and you have to continue to improve yourself. A draw would have been fairer but Sporting were good to take their moment.
'We had two or three situations where we could have done much better but now we must rest and think about the Premier League.'

Spurs started the season strongly, with many pundits dubbing them a dark horse in the Premier League title race. However, the defeat in Lisbon was a wake-up call for them as they look to end their nearly 15-year trophy drought.

Conte was criticised on Twitter after the loss, with many fans highlighting his underwhelming record in Europe. In his 36 matches in the competition, the Italian coach has a record of 13 wins, 11 draws and 12 defeats.

Spurs' first game win

Sports Brief earlier reported on Tottenham Hotspur's first match in the competition against Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.

The Londoners were far from perfect but managed to squeeze out a 2-0 win over the 10-man side.

Conte's focus now shifts to the Premier League this weekend as they welcome bottom side Leicester City.
