  • Jose Mourinho’s chilling warning to Dele Alli emerges as midfielder on the verge of Premier League exit
  • Jose Mourinho once bluntly told Dele Alli he needed to demand more from himself
  • The midfielder is set to exit the Premier League, with Besiktas his most likely destination
  • Mourinho arrived at Tottenham in 2019 but was sacked before the season ended

Jose Mourinho’s interesting remarks to Dele Alli two years ago have suddenly become relevant once again with the midfielder rumored to be on the verge of making a transfer to Besiktas in Turkey.

Mourinho arrived at Tottenham in 2019 and there was a general feeling from fans that he was either going to elevate or destroy Alli’s career.

Prior to the Portuguese’s arrival, Alli worked under Mauricio Pochettino where he enjoyed arguably the best form of his career.

He was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017, winning on both occasions and by that point, he looked like an absolute bargain as his former club MK Dons sold him for only £5m.

Tottenham’s transition from one manager to another was expertly captured in the famous docuseries All or Nothing and thanks to the production, fans got a glimpse of Mourinho’s relationship with Alli.

In a clip from the documentary, Mourinho gave Alli an interesting pep talk revolving around the England international demanding more from himself.

"I am 56 now and yesterday I was 20. Time flies. One day I think you will regret it if you don't reach what you can reach," the manager said.
"I am not expecting you to be the man of the match every game. I am not expecting you to score goals every game. I want just to tell you that you will regret it.
"You should demand more from yourself. It should not be me demanding more from you.
"Nobody else. You. You should demand more from yourself."
