  • Gary Neville believes only Tottenham Hotspur will come close to challenging Manchester City and Liverpool this season
  • Spurs have been impressive in the transfer market and have signed the likes of Richarlison and Ivan Perisic
  • Last season, Antonio Conte finished a distant fourth on the log, 22 points behind the Champions Manchester City

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has named Tottenham Hotspur as the only team that will come close to challenging Manchester City in the upcoming season.

Since finishing fourth last term, 22 points behind eventual champion Manchester City, Spurs have undergone an impressive transformation, particularly in their squad.

The North London club has shown some bravery in the transfer market, signing the likes of Richarlison, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.

While Liverpool and Manchester City have both been tipped to continue their dominance in the league, Neville believes Tottenham will finish a close third this season.

He said as quoted by Sunsport:

"I’ve got Tottenham Hotspur finishing third in my head," said Neville, speaking on the Overlap, in partnership with Sky Bet. "Because of [Ivan] Perišić, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison added into [the mix of] what they’ve already got.”

"I think Tottenham are the only club who could challenge, they won’t finish above Liverpool, but they could if somehow Liverpool wobble or get an injury to Virgil Van Dijk, then Tottenham could [challenge]. They are the only club who could potentially."

Tottenham also pulled off the loan signing of Clement Lenglet, who will spend the season in North London from Barcelona.

Conte’s side will kick off their new season with a game against Southampton on Saturday, August 6.
