  • Son’s latest goal against Liverpool has seen him displace Mohamed Salah at the top of the Premier League player of the season's rankings with only three games to go
  • Salah still leads the Golden Boot race having scored 22 times while Son has found the back of the next 20 times
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joao cancel are the other players on top of the rankings but the top two have opened a wide margin on them

Son Heung-Min has surpassed Mohamed Salah in the latest ranking of the best player in the Premier League. The two are involved in the race to win the Golden Boot award. Salah currently leads with 22 goals, two more than Son’s tally.

Salah has led the rankings the whole season but a recent blip in form has seen the South Korean leapfrog him into first place. Son has managed to score and assist 11 times in Tottenham Hotspur’s last seven games.

Son’s 20 goals in this campaign is his best-ever tally. His recent strike in Spur's one-all draw against Liverpool saw him become the second-ever Tottenham player to reach 20 goals, none of them being a penalty.

The Power Rankings by Sky Sports now show the 29-year-old is in box office position to clinch the player of the season award. Salah, however, also leads him in the assists charts. The Egyptian has 13 assists to his name compared to Son’s seven.

Son is also the most in-form player

Sky Sports further report that Son leads the form rankings which look at a player's past five games. Son scored twice in the game against Leicester City before netting in the Liverpool draw. That helped him displace Gabriel Jesus.

The Manchester City striker has been on form lately but failed to grab a goal in City’s demolition of Newcastle over the weekend. The Brazilian had five goals in his past two games prior to the match against Newcastle.

In the race for player of the season, the defensive duo of Trent Alexander Arnold and Joao Cancelo are also outside contenders. The two have been outstanding for their respective clubs this season. Trent has 12 assists while his City counterpart has seven assists. They have also both contributed to their teams' 21 clean sheets this season.

Salah bags FWA Player of the Year

Salah has already won the Football Writers Association Player of the year award. The former Chelsea man beat Kevin De Bruyne and Declan Rice to the award.

Sports Brief reported that Salah garnered 48% of the total votes cast to win the award for the second time having won it back in 2018.

Salah has a total of 30 goals in all competitions for Liverpool as they maintain the quadruple charge.
